This Week in Web Startups

Since this is complete crunch time before we head off to DEMO, blogging will be sparse at best for this guy. But since this week is full of news and events related to all things Web, I have to at least post a few links:

  1. TechCrunch 40-  Starts today, and features some companies that I’ve been paying attention to lately, such as Powerset (NLP search), Cognitive Code (Conversational AI), and Mint (stats).
  2. Yahoo buys Zimbra- Yahoo is in full acquisition mode, as it has purchased Zimbra, maker of on and offline office suite apps for a reported $350 Million.
  3. Yahoo buys BuzzTracker- A short money pickup, Yahoo picked up BuzzTracker for $5 million-ish. What’s as important is who they didn’t acquire, Techmeme, the big dog in the automated news aggregation ring. I like what Yahoo is doing right now: making everyone believe they’re dormant and not making big changes, then they buy something little, then something big. What’s next for yahoo? Perhaps something in the social media realm?

Okay, enough talk. Time to get back to work. Only a few more days ’til the big one.
