Live From DEMOfall 2007: Day Two- Afternoon Session One: The Search Continues

Since these posts are getting very long, I think I’ll split them up by group. Should have thought of that earlier.

So, here goes:

2:06 pm exalead-

Search software for the enterprise- their new tech is called baagz.com (covered on mashable here). They are mixing search with content discovery, and the ability to save your interests. Think social networking + search among categories.

It looks a lot like a flickr group, but instead of for photos, it is for search interests. I hope I am not completely wrong here.

Right now it’s only available on Firefox, but IE is coming soon (safari too).

2:18 PM- Trovix

(Covered on mashable here)
trovix is all about job hunting. They’ve been very visible here wearing shirts that say “More People: Less Monster”. They are creating a network to challenge monster, and they’re trying to deliver more accurate jobs.

Their service is free and confidential. They have a “semantic learning system” that is able to get more accurate information from resumes.

Employers pay trovix for the ability to find the right job candidate.

2:24 pm spacetime

Spacetime looks a lot like papervision added to a browser. They allow you to move and tilt your browser in 3d. Pages are rendered in 3d space, and it looks a lot like cover flow.

The ability to look at web pages in 3d is kind of neat, but not very useful. But that’s not all these guys do. They’re best feature is the ability to actually see the pages that come up in search terms. Let me explain.

Say you do a google search for rubber shovels. You get a bunch of results. Now, instead of having to go to each result, you actually see a live view of the web page. That’s very, very cool, and it immediately makes me think of how spacetime could really make RSS browsing much less painful.

This is such a visual, so don’t just listen to me. Go check this out. It’s worth your time.
