The Newest Web 2.0 Buzzword
Just read valleywag’s post about “cloud computing” as a term. It said:
Portfolio blogger Sam Gustin dislikes the phrase “cloud computing,” a term for Web-based software whose popularity he attributes to “desperate reporters who, for the sake of the almighty scoop, are willing to publish just about any nonsense that a public relations professional shovels at them.”
My question: could a fairly well-organized group of bloggers create a completely fake, vague term to describe a web phenomenon, and have it spread and be taken as the phrase of the day? We’ve already got web 2.0, the long tail, and cloud computing.
I’m wondering what we could come up with as a term to describe a completely esoteric, though all-encompassing phenomenon occurring on the web. I like “friendtigue” (friend + fatigue), the feeling you get when you are constantly asked to be someone’s friend on a social network. Then there’s a “plusapp” which is when you describe an application by adding together existing applications. Like twitter + flickr.
Obviously, I’m not coming up with anything good here, but I’d like to hear anything you’ve got.
