Pouring Out A Little Of My 40 For Tubes
Tubes is gone. I heard about them at DEMO last September and wrote about them when I had a need for what they were offering. But alas, the service is ceasing.
I received the following email last night:
The Tubes service will be going away as of Jan 31, 2008.
Any data/files you have on your computer will not be lost. However, the ability to synchronize your data/files will go away.
All support services have been discontinued. Automated Knowledge Base articles may remain available and you may find some help at
www.tubesnow.com/forums. However, you will not be receiving a response from Tubes to submitted requests. Thank you for participating in our beta program. The Tubes Team
That’s too bad. I liked it. I can’t honestly say I used it more than the one time, but if the base functionality of tubes were to be rolled into an existing application, I think it would be incredibly useful.
It’s a real shame, as the technology was very cool! And it was getting a lot of adoption. The problem was, I’m guessing, that the management team just didn’t know what to do with a consumer app–they were used to enterprise plays, and this thing scared them to death.
