Inside The DEMO 2008 Companies: NotchUp
The DEMO presentations are kind of like Christmas to me. I love checking out the startups launching on stage and the products they’re offering. What’s better is actually trying out their stuff.
While NotchUp was presenting, I signed up for a beta account. Here’s the idea: the best job candidates already have jobs, and they’re not necessarily actively looking for a new gig. But even if you’re not looking, wouldn’t you take a phone interview if you were getting paid for it? Especially when you get to set your own price.
Here’s how it works: You sign up and upload your resume. NotchUp gets back to you to let you know if you’ve been accepted. Yes, they actually reject people.
Once accepted, you set your interview price:

Not sure what to charge? NotchUp has a calculator to help out:

Once you set your price, it’s time to add your privacy settings. Since you’re already employed, there’s a good chance you don’t want your employer to see that you’re out there looking….
The next step is to create your profile:
In addition to getting paid for interviews, NotchUp has a referral program:
It’s an interesting concept especially in a time where recruiting the best talent is insanely difficult (and when Google is offering $95K to graduating students).

TalentSpring (my company), JobFox, and ItzBig are three companies working on making hiring more efficient. Now NotchUp is also doing some interesting things in this space.
The first three are working on advanced ways to job seekers to their ideal job opening. And employers to their ideal job candidate.
TalentSpring goes beyond that to rank resumes within an industry. We do this to benefit Job Seekers by getting the attention of employees. Job seekers rank well in areas they are passionate about and where they have invested in their work experience and education.
Since job seekers will rank well in areas they are interested in, we can bring large numbers of employers back to that job seeker. Specifically, we email a wide range of employers of job types that the job seeker considers ideal. This way the job seeker wins because they have their ideal types of employers actively listening to them. (Ranking resumes gives us the power to accomplish this)

Hi Bryan, and thanks for the comment. I have to admit that I’m not very up-to-speed with the latest in the hiring space, as I’m not familiar with any of the companies you mentioned. I’ll have to check these out. Thanks!
