Blogstring Pub Crawl Tweetup Verdict: Success!

New Picks March 2008 051Amanda Gravel put it best, bringing online friendships into the real world is a truly valuable benefit of social media. It’s been a couple months since I have been able to make it down to Boston for an event, so I was thrilled that Blogstring’s Pubcrawl Tweetup was such a smashing success.

We has a lot to live up to, as January’s Australia Day Tweetup organized by Paull Young was one of the more memorable nights of 2008 for me–but the night could not have turned out better.

It was a bit of a George Costanza night for me, with “worlds colliding!” moments flying fast and furious. Two of my real-life friends (roommates who only got Internet installed in their apartment this week) were in attendance, along with one of my oldest and dearest pals, Matt O’Malley, whose thick Boston accent should have a Thunderdome match with Paull’s Aussie accent.

Terrific night all around, Nate and I could not be more pleased. I got a chance to meet some terrific new Twitter friends, including Aaron White, Josh Nichols, Bryan Maleszyk, Dimitri Gunn  and Pamela Siemple. It was also as fun as ever to see the usual Boston-area suspects, including Amanda Gravel, Sandy Kalik, Steve Garfield, Andrea Mercado and Julia Roy. Oh, and the three guys rocking out with me on the dancefloor up there came all the way from NYC for the occasion, Paull Young, Mike Denton, and Abe Estrada.

The value of the in-person get together cannot be underestimated, particularly the more casual events, like pub Tweetups and social media breakfasts. Discussing the latest social media trends in an informal, relaxed setting and forming real friendships cements the benefits of networking online.

Not to mention, it’s just a whole lot of fun. I look forward to many more events in the future, and hopefully the next Blostring event will be even bigger and better–if that is even possible!

  1. Thanks, Sarah and Nate for organizing such a fun night. Spending time with the “usual suspects” is always a blast!

  2. I just want to thank everyone for coming out last night. It was so much fun, and the turnout was unbelievable! I can’t wait to do it again. And stay tuned, as we’ll be putting together some other social media tweetups (maybe even a non-pub version) very soon.

  3. This was a great time! Thanks Nate and Sarah to planning and awesome night and knowing exactly how to adapt to the ID issues. It was great to meet so many new people.
