My Twitter Wish List: 3 Little Things
Posted on April 18th, 2008 by Nathan Burke
I love twitter. I admit it. Though I was initially reluctant to join and participate, I’ve seen the light, and use it all the time. Since I started using twitter religiously, I’ve noticed a few things that are annoying. There are a 3 improvements that could be made that would make twitter that much better.
- Comment thing- Sure, it’s a pipe dream, but it would be kind of cool, no?
- Groups- I would love to be able to categorize the people I follow into groups. That way I could check updates much like I do with my RSS feeds. For instance, I could create a "matchmine" group, and I’d be able to click on it to see all of the people I follow from work.
- Sorting options- I get individual emails when new people follow me. Rather than clicking through individual emails, I’d love it if I could sort followers by "Newest", or "Not Following". That would immediately let me see the people that follow me that I have not yet followed.
I want to make it clear that I’m not complaining about twitter (hear that, @chelpixie). I love twitter, and complaining seems like bitching about a gift. I mean, it’s free, and I’m using a service that is great. These are just some ideas that would make twitter a little bit better.
Do you have any twitter improvement ideas?
Per @pamelump’s suggestions, here’s a twitter comment card (click for .doc)

YES! Twitter totally needs sorting options like your “Not Following” suggestion. Is there a Twitter suggestion box where we can submit these ideas?

Per your suggestion, I’ve created just that: a twitter pre-addressed comment card.
Awesome! I’ll totally be using this.

Hi,
There is a few apps/sites out there that allow you to group people”
1. Crowd Staus: http://crowdstatus.com/Internet%20Marketing%20Guruscrowd.aspx
2. The other thing you can do (with a little work) is use Yahoo Pipes(pipes.yahoo.com/ ) and create one rss feed that incorporates a group of twitter feeds.
Hope this helps…

We should check this out…
Haha. I know you aren’t complaining. With previous conversations, it just alarmed me to a) think about twitter not existing and b) pondering where twitter would make money to keep existing worried me!
These are all great features requests. I’m just waiting for the API for Twhirl to be changed in a way that allows me to keep up with more than 300 people at a time.
Yes.

Groups.
I hear they are working on it.
But until then, I made up a second user name that follows a group.
