Web 2.0 Expo NYC Wrapup

This week I went to the Web 2.0 Expo in NYC to man the matchmine booth. I also had a chance to wander around picking up freebies and listen to exhibitors talk about their products. Here’s a quick rundown of the companies that caught my attention, either because their product was interesting, or their freebies were cool. In some cases both were true.

Been Verified- BeenVerified bills itself as “the world’s first personal background sharing platform”. They’re kind of like Trust-e for individuals, in that they’re a third party service that is a trusted authority. From their About page:

We created the best portable online identity verification tool on the internet. BeenVerified is used for establishing trust when meeting, hiring or dating online. Like sunscreen for going to the beach or a bike helmet for riding a bike, you don’t have to use it, but it makes the process safer for everyone.

Been verified has three levels of services: for individuals (free), for web sites & communities (free), and for employers/recruiters (fee-based).

BlogTalkRadio- I’ve talked about blogtalkradio many times before, and when Sarah and I do a podcast, we use blogtalkradio to produce and distribute it. I really love their service, and it was great to see some of the people behind it.

Conduit- Conduit provides syndication services for web publishers. Using conduit, you can create a custom toolbar for your site, and attract new visitors by having your site included in their network.

LiquidPlanner- Project management software that includes scheduling and social networking components.

Mashery- Mashery is a service that provides outsourced API management.

matchmine- (My employer) matchmine is a media discovery network, and though I am biased, I think we had one of the best freebies at the show. Tape measures with our logo on it. Woot.

Octopz- Octopz had a very interesting product, as they have online collaboration services for creative teams, and it’s really slick. Their software allows offsite teams to collaborate in realtime, and stores sessions and screenshots for retrieval afterwards. They also had the best freebie of all:
