DEMO 2009 Day Two Session One
So, it’s day two of DEMO 2009 and I just watched the morning’s presentations. Here are the companies that were on stage this morning and what they’re all about:

Ensembli- Ensembli is a feedreader-like web app that suggests content based on your interests. From their DEMO page: "What’s relevant to you is deeply personal to you. Search engines, feed readers and aggregators can’t sense who you are and what interests you, and they certainly don’t anticipate what’ll excite you. Instead they overwhelm you." Ensembli is a UK-based compay whose competitors include Filtrbox and Blern. What’s their business model? Hard to say.

Evri- Evri is all about context. You create collections where you can follow "entities in the real world public sphere that you’re interested in." Evri looks at the content you’re interested in and draws associations between the things you like. I like their UI a lot.

purewire- purewire is launching purewire trust, which is a reputation system. It collects information on people and gives them a reputation score, so it’s almost like antivirus for people.

GagaPost- They’re a collaborative blogging platform.

Xmarks- Xmarks is a bookmark-based web discovery service. You search on their site and you can see similar sites based on the number of users that have bookmarked it. This one was very, very interesting. I’ll have to do a full review on it later.

gazaro- gazaro is a service that lets you create your own personalized sales flyer. Search for products you’re interested in, and using AI, the service will find the best deals for you.

howsimple- howsimple is a desktop app that moves browsing into panels.

primalfusion is introducing what they call "thought networking". You go to their search box and enter a term, and they’ll suggest associated search terms to help you narrow the results to what you’re actually looking for.

kutano is a browser add-on that lets you make comments on any web page. Many bookmarking products already offer this (like diigo), and it’s windows-only now so I can’t check it out.

Okay, that’s all for this morning. There were more presenters, but they weren’t really consumer web plays, so I stayed away from them. Out of these, the most interesting is xmarks.
